i'm going to guess - i know that in certain setups a break sent on a
serial line is the same as pressing L1-A.  what happens if you reconnect
the serial console - do you see an openbsd prompt (ie login: or your
shell prompt) or do you see a prom prompt (ie ok)?

if that was happening to me, that would be my first thing to check.
