I can't comment on the correctness or otherwise of the first statement above, but on the later statements regarding the packaging; I like the current directory layout, I administer more than just some DNS tools and I want to be able to fit applications *into* my OS, not visa versa. I still hate the way Oracle (for one example) takes over a whole machine, when for many applications it will only be one of many running on a system. If you expect your tools to help 'take over' systems by imposing external 'standards' on them, then you will lose. At least in my shop. Peter |
