This has floated away from the original question.

I use SSH protocol version 2, the OpenSSH implementation uses
(used to use) DSA. It is a known fact that DSA is slower than
RSA, also alot more goes on when connecting SSH protcol version 2
and that may add to why it is slower.

I have seen this on all boxes (around 10) that when moving from
SSH protocol version 1 to 2, connection takes longer.

So this is not a firewall problem or a DNS problem (for me) as it
only happens with SSH protocol version 2 and it made it in to
this thread as question to the original poster that it may be this
that was his/her problem (and if so that it is normal).

So thanks but no thanks, it is an non existing problem for me.
