Mr Richardson,
You are grossly mis-understanding what the OpenBSD community is
requesting from you. We do not want fully supported GUI management
software from Adaptec, nor do we want complete support from Adaptec by
Monday. All the community is requesting is enough documentation to
write their own drivers and management tools to properly handle that
raid controller. This does not require full support from Adaptec in
order to accomplish this, however more support would be even better.
Closed documentation for the AAC raid controller has limited the
driver written by the OpenBSD team to the point where it is almost
completely un-usable, therefore I will not be buying any Adaptec raid
controllers for any of my systems. I see no reason in supporting a
company that refuses to even let another community support itself. I
also have purchasing power in the current company I work for, and I
will recommend the best product for the job, which Adaptec raid
controllers are not. You have the power to change that, just by
supplying the OpenBSD community with enough documentation to write
their own drivers and management tools. If a company is unwilling to
even let a community support themselves with no help from that company
other than documentation, that sends the message they just don't care
about their user community anymore. Please show me I am wrong by
supplying us with documentation, as we are not asking anymore more of
Adaptec.
