Why cow-tow to this archaic mode of thought, Scott? There is no good
reason to keep documentation closed, and there's no good reason for
Adaptec customers to let them keep it closed. I ask again - why is
providing documentation such a huge problem? Why can't Adaptec care
enough to put a postage stamp on an envelope and mail it to Theo &
Co.? Hell...I'll pay for the stamp if its a purchasing department
issue...

I'll heartily agree that there is little reason for any company to
keep information like this closed. But going around making personal
attacks on company employees that don't give you the cookie you want
is pretty shitty too.

After the length of time prodding over this issue, a more personal focus is usually required to get the sleeping giant to acknowledge it, isn't it?

Don't take it personally. That is something I learned a long time ago after starting to use OpenBSD and getting involved with the community.

Point at hand though Scott; you've acknowledged that the information requested is of feasible benefit to all open source projects; countless customers, making up a significant portion of your marketshare have expressed their opinion of the matter, and you realize that it is sheer prehistoric idiocy to deny a userbase and platform support group the information re: your hardware, since it will only help sell more units later and not possibly in any way reduce sales; can you now make things happen and help close this chapter? Everyone can benefit.
