i feel you are missing part of the point here:  OpenBSD is not about
making everybody use it for everything.  I use OpenBSD a lot and like
to use it, but if and when i made the mistake to buy something
OpenBSD cannot support for whatever reason, and if i cannot afford
to throw it away, i can always take some other OS, say Debian GNU/Linux
or something, to run the stuff.  Most of the time, that is working
quite well with more or less everything, and in its own way, it's
more or less free.  There is no need to copy the approach "try to
make everything work, compromising freedom when problems arise"
when enough other people are already doing that.

But there is some need to have ONE operating system around where
i can be sure that it is completely free and where i can be sure
that it has really been scrutinized for reliability and security,
sacrificing completeness of hardware support if it can't be helped.
Very good to have that around for using it whenever possible...
