Once you compare the prices, getting the Opteron machines becomes pretty obvious. At work, an application owner said he needed a 4-way box for Peoplesoft and Websphere. I priced out an HP DL585, came to about $17k. One of the users said that Websphere wouldn't run on an AMD (he lied), but to be reasonable I priced out a 4-way DL580, it came to $32k. When faced with paying double just to get an Intel, all of a sudden Websphere ran just fine on an AMD. Personally, I'd take two DL585s over one DL580 any day.
